Northfield, OH - Southwind Amazon became horse racing’s all-time win leader after securing his 138th victory at Northfield Park Tuesday, November 5th.

The 14 year old son of Camlucks’s, owned by Ameer Najor, and trained by Paul Holzman, pushed his career earnings over $1.5 million with the win, surpassing Niffit for most wins by a modern era race horse.

Southwind Amazon overcame a poor start and a class jump to secure the victory, winning at odds of 8-1 for driver Justin Irvine.

For Irvine, the win marked one of the biggest of his young career, as he guided Southwind Amazon to a comfortable three and a half length win.

“He was racing before I even got my driving license, I can’t believe that my name will be in the record books with such a great horse,” said Irvine.

Trainer Paul Holzman reflected on the horse's remarkable career, saying, “He has taken me to places I never thought I would be, and he’s raced against some of the greatest horses of all time. I couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s like my son. I’ve ridden on his coattails; it’s been an absolute thrill and honor.”

Holzman plans to continue racing Southwind Amazon through the end of this year. The gelding will turn 15 next year forcing him into retirement.
